Created with the Godot Engine (Build 3.2 alpha ver 1), The Oustanding Contraption is my take on what would happen if "The Incredible Machine" made the leap to VR. Thought not nearly as intricate, I feel like given more time to develop this could be a worthy successor but given the time frame I'm still really proud of the outcome.
My only headset is an Oculus Quest, and I developed this prior to the Oculus Link update that makes it compatible with OpenVR, so all of the testing builds and the initial release were compiled as apk files. Thankfully the compile time was still low and being able to jump between coding and VR--while jarring and cumbersome at times--was a workflow that I was able to grow accustomed to.
In the case of The Oustanding Contraption, I don't feel like I really go to take advantage of the Oculus Quest's wireless functionality other than the fact that some of the puzzles happen in a large area. However for me, the fact that I managed to develop this within the 36 hour window of the Game Development Club at SJSU's Extra Life's Game Jam is quite the accomplishment and this was a great learning experience for working under pressure and creating tutorials and intuitive experiences in VR.
Another milestone, is that the music for this game was entirely created by me! It's only one fairly short track that just loops, but it's a start.
